Overheard a guy at the hardware store say he never aerates his lawn, just throws down seed every spring

He claimed aerating is a waste of time and money, but my little patch of grass in Denver was looking rough after 3 years of just seeding, so now I'm wondering if I should stick to his lazy method or keep doing the core aeration every fall since it seems like the pros all swear by it.

And honestly the pros aren't just saying that for fun. Core aeration breaks up that compacted soil so roots can actually breathe and water can soak in deep. Skip aeration long enough and you're basically throwing seed on top of concrete, which explains why your Denver grass is struggling.

People expect things to just work without any upkeep and then wonder why they fall apart. It's the same with cars, relationships, even your health. You skip the basic maintenance for a few seasons and suddenly you're dealing with a mess that takes twice the effort to fix. Aeration is just one of those boring chores nobody wants to do, but it makes everything else you put into your lawn actually matter. Most folks just want the quick fix without the boring ground work first.

Tried just seeding for years too, switching to aeration made my lawn actually green up.
