Patching my lawn after a tree stump removal took way longer than I figured
I had a big oak tree taken down last fall and figured the stump grinding would leave a simple hole to fill. Man, was I wrong. It took me about 6 weeks of topsoil settling and adding more every few days before the ground even looked level. Then the grass seed I put down in early March barely took because the soil mix was all wrong. I ended up having to dig out half the fill and start over with a proper blend of compost and sand. Has anyone else found a faster way to get that sunken spot to stop dropping?

...and honestly I don't get why people stress so hard about a divot in the lawn. It's grass, not a pool table. I've had a spot where a tree came out for like two years now and it's still a little low when it rains. Who cares? You're probably overthinking it with the compost and sand blend. Just throw some extra dirt on it once a year and call it good.

Ha! I'm over here filling divots while my whole yard looks like a tree fell on it.

Right there with you. I've got a spot in my backyard where the old dog used to dig and it's been a mess for years now. Throwing some extra topsoil on it once a season seems to do the trick just fine.
