Picked flagstone over concrete for my patio, best move I made all summer

Honestly, I was torn between pouring a concrete slab or doing flagstone for my backyard patio in Phoenix. Concrete was cheaper at around $900 installed, but I went with flagstone for about $1,300 because I wanted something that wouldn't crack in the heat. After three months, the flagstone stays cooler under my feet and drains way better during monsoon rains. Has anyone else here dealt with cracking concrete in hot climates?

Add a layer of decomposed granite between the flagstone and the ground to help with water runoff even more. Sealing the flagstone every couple years also stops the color from fading in that relentless sun.

Wait, wouldn't decomposed granite actually make drainage worse since it holds water? I thought you want coarse sand or gravel between flagstone and dirt so water actually moves through instead of sitting there.

Tacking onto what colegarcia said, sealing it is a lifesaver in Phoenix, I used a matte sealant and it kept the color looking new even after two summers. How often do you guys reapply your sealant out here?
