Showerthought: Everyone says to keep your lawn short, but letting mine grow a bit saved it during that dry spell last month. | Backyard Living - Freelance Forum - The Community for Independent Professionals
But what about all the pests and weeds a long lawn brings in? That extra length is a perfect home for ticks and mice, and it lets weeds go to seed way easier. A short lawn dries out faster, sure, but it also stops a lot of problems before they start. You might save some water, but you're trading that for a whole other set of issues. It just seems like a messy fix for a dry spell.
Okay, "perfect home for ticks" got me. @kelly.mia, you're right, I did find a mouse nest last fall when I finally mowed. My bad, I was basically running a tiny rodent hotel. But doesn't keeping it longer help the grass roots fight the weeds better anyway?
