That neighbor who gave me a hose lecture still bugs me

Last August a guy two doors down saw me watering my new grass and walked over. He said I was wasting water and killing the roots by doing it every day. He showed me how he soaked his yard once a week for 45 minutes with a cheap timer from Lowe's. I tried his method and my lawn actually survived the heat, but I still think he could have been less pushy about it. Anyone else get unsolicited backyard advice from a neighbor that ended up being right?
