The $14 soil thermometer that exposed my lazy compost game

I shoved a cheap soil thermometer into my compost pile last Tuesday and found the center was only 80 degrees after 3 weeks, which explains why my veggie scraps were just sitting there rotting instead of breaking down, and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried turning their pile more often or adding browns to actually kickstart the heat?
