Took a gamble on a $40 rain barrel from Facebook Marketplace...
Found a used rain barrel for cheap and decided to try it instead of buying a new $200 one from the garden store... after some scrubbing and a new spigot it works great for my veggie patch. Anyone else had luck with secondhand garden gear?

Was the previous owner using it for drinking water or just gardening? I'm always curious what people keep in those things before they sell them.

Wait until you hear what I found out about people's tanks on marketplace. It's actually wild how many folks don't even know what the previous owner used them for. @abbyf79 I went to pick up a used tank last month and the guy just shrugged when I asked. Said he got it from his neighbor who used it for "who knows what." That's the pattern I keep seeing, people just buying and selling these without asking the important questions. You'd think someone would ask about the previous use before they hand over cash, but it seems like nobody does. Makes you wonder what else is getting passed around without anyone checking, right?

Wait, are you serious? I used to be one of those people who just grabbed a used tank without asking a single question, honestly. I figured water is water and people wouldn't mess around with something that holds drinking water. But after reading this thread, I'm totally rethinking that whole approach. It's crazy that sellers don't even know what went in there before, and buyers just accept that as normal. I guess I just assumed everyone was like me and only used tanks for clean stuff, but that's clearly not the case. Now I'm kind of freaked out thinking about all the random things that could've been stored in those things before I filled them up.
