Tried a cheap solar fountain pump from a garage sale and it actually works
I picked up this little plastic pump for five bucks, stuck it in my birdbath, and it's been running for a solid week now without stopping. I figured it would die after a day, but it's still making a nice little trickle that the birds seem to love. Has anyone else had a random cheap find work out way better than expected?

Man, that's awesome. It makes me wonder if those cheap things work better because they have zero fancy parts to break. All the expensive pumps have timers and sensors and junk, but yours is probably just a solar panel wired straight to a tiny motor. Sometimes the simplest design just wins, even if it looks like a toy.

Honestly, that's the best feeling. You expect total junk and instead you get a workhorse. My garage sale solar light lasted three summers before it gave up, looked like it was made of melted plastic. It's like these things are built to spite the big box stores. Enjoy your free water show while it lasts.

Totally get that feeling. Found a cheap dollar store flashlight years ago that survived multiple camping trips and being dropped in a puddle. It finally quit when my dog decided it was a chew toy. Makes you wonder where they hide all the good stuff, right?
