Tried a gas fire pit after years of wood burning and wow what a difference
Spent 4 years dealing with ash cleanup and waiting 45 minutes for a good fire with my wood pit. Switched to a gas one last weekend and it's just on/off, no mess. Anyone else made the swap and felt silly for waiting so long?

Honestly, 45 minutes?? That's insane to me. I thought I was being impatient with my wood pit taking 20 minutes to get going, but almost an hour? You're a saint for putting up with that for so long. Ngl, I switched to gas last fall and the instant flame thing still feels like cheating every single time. Tbh I don't miss the ash or the smoke smell clinging to my clothes at all. It's basically a miracle for anyone who actually wants to sit outside and relax instead of babysitting a fire.

Fair enough @lisab32 but there's something about building that flame yourself that gas just can't replace for me.

@the_sage I get exactly what you mean. There is something special about starting a fire from scratch, watching it catch and build up. Gas is convenient but it feels too easy, like skipping a step. The smell of the smoke and the quiet work of tending the fire is part of the whole experience for me. Takes more time but it's worth it.
