Tried cedar chips vs rubber mulch around my garden beds in Phoenix - the difference was night and day
Last July I redid the landscaping around the raised beds out back. Did half with cedar chips from the local nursery and half with shredded rubber mulch from Home Depot. Thought the rubber would last forever and save me money. Well after 3 months of 110 degree sun, the rubber started fading to a weird gray and holding so much heat I could feel it 3 feet away. The cedar chips held their color, kept the soil cooler, and I didn't have to worry about little rubber bits getting into my veggie beds. What do you all use for mulching around vegetables in hot climates?

You tried the rubber too? I actually had the opposite experience here in Texas. My veggie beds get full sun and the cedar chips just dried out and blew away in weeks. The rubber mulch stays put and I haven't had any heat issues with my plants. What brand of cedar chips did you use?

Has anyone checked if rubber mulch messes with your soil pH over time?
