Watched my bamboo go from 2 feet to 12 feet in one summer and now my neighbors hate me

Last March I planted a small bamboo screen for privacy and by August it had completely taken over the guy next door's yard, has anyone else had a 'fast growing' plant turn into a nightmare like this?

mason_murray8's "accidental jungle" line really hit me. I used to be one of those people who rolled their eyes at horror stories about bamboo, thinking people just didn't know how to control it. But after seeing your post, I actually looked up how fast running bamboo spreads and now I totally get it. That stuff sounds like it would take over a whole neighborhood if you blinked twice. I was wrong to dismiss those warnings before. Your situation pretty much proved you can't mess around with that plant unless you're ready for a full on takeover.

Wow, way to turn a privacy screen into a neighborhood feud in record time. Next thing you know the bamboo will be sending you angry letters about property lines. At least now you know you planted the aggressive kind, congrats on the accidental jungle.

Yeah, the "accidental jungle" part hits close to home, I've been there. If you dig a trench or put in a rhizome barrier now you might save yourself a war with the neighbor next year. Trust me, I learned that lesson the hard way after my clumping bamboo turned into a running nightmare.
