Finally got my sourdough starter to pass the float test after two weeks of flat, sad pancakes.
I was about to give up, but then I moved it to the top of my fridge in my warm kitchen and fed it with some rye flour I had left over from last Christmas, and now it's bubbling like crazy and my first real loaf is in the oven.

Rye flour from last Christmas still worked?

@grace_kelly45 I'd give it a smell test first.

Smell test is the only way. Found a jar of pumpkin pie spice from like 2018. Smelled like dust and sadness. Grace_Kelly45, your rye flour is probably fine if it passes. My nose has saved me from some bad baked goods.

Did you try the discard pancakes with that starter or just keep feeding it until it passed?
