My mixer attachment fell apart mid-batch on Saturday

The dough hook on my 20 quart Hobart sheared its pin while I was kneading a 50 pound batch of sourdough for the farmers market. I had to hand knead for 45 minutes to save it, and I'm wondering if anyone else has switched to a spiral mixer for heavy loads or if I just got a bad hook.

Did you ever notice how a 20 quart Hobart handles a 10 pound batch like a champ but starts acting up around 40 plus? I used to swear by the old planetary mixers, thought spiral ones were just for pizza guys. But after my pin sheared off on a Sunday morning with a full proof on the line, I borrowed a friend's spiral for a week and honestly, I get it now. That thing just churns through heavy dough without the motor screaming or parts giving out, and clean up is actually easier since the bowl doesn't move.
