Overheard a health inspector at the Spokane farmers market talking about counterfeit vanilla

I was grabbing coffee last weekend and heard two health inspectors talking about a fake vanilla ring they busted near Spokane. They said some carts were using extract that had almost zero real vanillin, just synthetic stuff that can leave a weird bitter aftertaste when baked. It made me think about how much I trust my supplier without checking labels, and now I'm rechecking every bottle I bought in the last 6 months. Anyone else ever deal with shady ingredients from a bulk vendor?
