Vent: My whole batch of sourdough starter died last month

I left it on the counter while I went to visit my sister in Denver for a week, and the house got way too hot. Came back to a jar of pink, smelly liquid and had to start completely over from scratch. What's the longest you've managed to keep a starter alive?

Three years is a long time, but calling it "lost mine" makes it sound like a tragedy. People lose jobs, family, their health. A phone is just a thing. You can get the same model again and it's like nothing changed. I dropped mine in a lake and had a new one by dinner. It's not that deep.
