My grandma insisted I weigh flour instead of scooping it
She's been baking for 50 years and kept telling me to get a scale. I always just used measuring cups like a normal person. Finally tried her way last weekend and my cake came out way lighter and fluffier. Anyone else have a relative who was right about some baking trick?

Right after my grandma passed away I found her old kitchen scale in a box and felt like an actual fool for all those years of dense muffins. Now I'm that guy weighing out butter like I'm measuring gold dust.

Wait, did you always think weighing was overkill too? I was exactly the same way, thought my mom was nuts for using a scale for cookies. Then I tried it for my banana bread and realized how much difference it makes when you get the flour amount right every time. Now I never go back to cups for baking, it just gives you way more consistent results.

@sullivan.quinn totally nailed it, I used to think scales were for people who take baking way too seriously. But my grandma basically dragged me into the kitchen and made me weigh everything for a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Now I feel like a total dork because my cookies actually come out round instead of flat puddles. I even caught myself telling my brother he should weigh his flour and he looked at me like I had three heads.
