My oven died 20 minutes into a birthday cake and I still can't believe what saved it
Last Saturday I had a 9 inch funfetti cake in the oven for my niece's party when the whole thing just clicked off and went cold. I panicked, ran it across the street to my neighbor Dana, and she finished baking it in her toaster oven at 325 for another 25 minutes. The edges got a little dark but everyone ate it and nobody even noticed. Has anyone else had an oven quit mid bake, and did you save the cake or toss it?
I remember reading somewhere that oven thermostats are the part that usually goes first, so the whole thing dying mid bake like that is pretty rare. Sounds like you got lucky with a neighbor who was home and had a toaster oven that actually fits a 9 inch pan. Cold oven cakes are salvageable if you catch it fast, so running it across the street was the right call.
