My sourdough starter doubled in 2 hours after I moved it to the top of my fridge
I read in a baking blog that a warmer spot can speed up fermentation, but seeing it happen that fast in my own kitchen was a total shock.

Check your fridge's actual top temperature.

Actually, that blog is likely right. The top of a fridge is often a great warm spot because of the heat from the motor. It can easily be 5 to 10 degrees warmer than your counter. That small change can really speed things up, especially if your kitchen was on the cool side before. It is a bit of a shock to see it happen that fast, but it just shows how sensitive a starter can be.
