Walked into a bakery in Portland that charges $8 for a single croissant and I have thoughts

I was in Portland last weekend visiting my daughter and stopped at a place that had a 45 minute line just for pastries. I figured it had to be amazing, so I waited and paid $8.50 for one plain croissant. It was perfectly flaky and buttery, I will give them that, but come on, eight dollars for butter and flour? I could make a dozen at home for that price. Has anyone else hit a breaking point on what they will pay for a single baked good?

45 minute line just for pastries" - girl WHAT. I would have noped out so fast. Like I love a good croissant, I really do, but waiting almost an hour and dropping $8.50 on a single one is wild. I don't care how flaky it was, that's a whole meal budget for one piece of bread. I bet the hype is real for some people but my broke ass would rather grab a $3 one from the grocery store and call it a day. Portland really be testing people's patience with those prices.

@xenam84 right? $8.50 for bread is insane. Hard pass from me too.

Wait do people actually pay eight bucks for a croissant? I once waited 20 minutes for a donut in San Francisco and felt like a total clown when it was just okay.
