Appreciation post: I thought 'no work weekends' was impossible for a freelancer

For years, I laughed at people who said they never worked on Saturday or Sunday. I figured you had to be available 24/7 to make it. Then, after a really bad month where I worked 18 days straight, my partner basically made me try it. We put my work laptop in a closet from Friday night to Monday morning. The first weekend was hard, but by the third one, my Monday focus was completely different. Has anyone else managed to make a real weekend rule stick, and how did you handle client calls that 'just can't wait'?

Nice, the closet trick is genius.

My old boss used to forward weekend emails to a special folder he wouldn't open until Monday. Did your partner ever check the closet?

Tried that trick, but @colegarcia is right, the closet works better for hiding stuff.
