Had a talk with my neighbor about why she stopped freelancing

My neighbor across the hall used to do freelance graphic design for 8 years. She told me last week she quit because she was answering emails at 11pm every night for 3 years straight. Made me look at my own 10pm replies differently. Has anyone else had a random chat like that make you rethink your whole schedule?

That story really hits hard especially the 11pm email part. It makes you wonder if we're all just tricking ourselves into thinking we're being productive when really we're just burning out slowly. Did she say if she had tried setting boundaries first or was it just too late by the time she realized? Because I bet a lot of freelancers know that 10pm reply feeling but just push through it for years without stopping to think about the cost. What specifically made her finally snap and say enough is enough?
