Heard a freelancer at a co-working space say boundaries kill relationships... got me thinking
They argued that saying no to late-night edits builds respect, but I've seen the opposite where being too rigid lost me a repeat gig worth $800 a month. What's your take on holding firm versus being flexible with client hours?

@ivan462 that late night email thing is key. I lost that $800 gig because I was too rigid, but now I just don't answer non urgent stuff on weekends and it works way better.

Read somewhere that the most successful freelancers treat boundaries like a dimmer switch, not an on/off button. Maybe the trick is knowing which clients earn that extra flexibility.

Pfft, dimmer switch, that's a bit fancy. Honestly, I think people overthink this stuff. You set a few basic rules, you stick to them, you move on. It's not like you're negotiating a peace treaty every time you answer an email. The real trick is just not answering emails at 10 PM on a Saturday. If a client expects that, they're not earning anything, they're just being rude. I've been doing this long enough and the best clients are the ones who don't need you to explain the dimmer switch metaphor in the first place.
