Looking back on my old 'always on' work schedule

Three years ago, I was working from my kitchen table in Atlanta, answering emails at 11pm and taking calls on weekends. Last month, I finally set a hard rule to shut my laptop at 6pm every day, no matter what. It felt weird at first, like I was leaving money on the table. But last week, I realized I hadn't felt that Sunday night dread in over a month. How do you all draw the line between work time and your own time?

My laptop now judges me for working late.

Set that laptop to shut down like a store closing for the night. I used to feel the same weird guilt, like I was slacking off. That Sunday dread is the real bill for all those extra hours, and it's way too high. The work will still be there tomorrow, but your own time won't be.
