Spent $60 on a noise cancelling headset and it saved my week

I finally caved and bought a refurbished pair of Sony WH-1000XM4s after three straight days of construction noise ruining my focus. Turns out I can actually hit deadlines when I'm not hearing jackhammers through my walls. Anyone else find that spending money on your workspace feels weirdly guilty?

I got a refurbished pair of the XM4s last year for $50 after my neighbor decided to start a drumming hobby at midnight. That first day I put them on I actually cried a little - I could hear my own breathing for the first time in months. The guilt about spending money on work stuff is so real though. I kept telling myself I should just "deal with it" because other people have it worse. But honestly, my productivity doubled and I stopped getting tension headaches by noon. It feels weird to spend on comfort but your brain can't function properly when it's being attacked by noise all day.

$50 for XM4s though? I mean idk, I feel like spending money on noise cancelling is just avoiding the real issue of learning to tune things out naturally. @sandragrant said it doubled their productivity but maybe that's just placebo effect or making excuses to buy expensive gadgets.

Oh come on. Tuning things out naturally doesn't work when your neighbor's bass is shaking your walls at 2am. Some noises you just can't willpower your way through. $50 is a steal for that kind of peace honestly. People spend more on coffee in a week without blinking. If it stops headaches and lets you focus, that's not a placebo. That's just your brain finally getting a break.
