Took a full Sunday off for the first time in 8 months and my productivity tanked on Monday

I thought a real break would reset me, but I spent Monday morning staring at my screen getting nothing done. Maybe my brain just forgot how to start again after a full day off? Has anyone else had that weird lag after a forced rest day?

Yeah but is it really that big of a deal? Missing one morning of focus after a whole day off sounds pretty normal to me. Monday mornings are always rough even without a lazy Sunday. You probably just needed a couple hours to ease back into it.

Right? That's exactly what I'm saying. People act like you're supposed to be a robot the second you clock in on Monday. I had a Sunday where I literally just sat on the couch and watched football all day, and Monday morning I couldn't string two thoughts together until like 10am. It's not like you're skipping work, you're just letting your brain actually rest for a change. Honestly, if anything, that lazy Sunday probably made me more productive later in the week because I wasn't burnt out yet. I don't get why everyone feels the need to be "on" every single second of every day.

Yeah exactly, Julia's right that Monday mornings are always rough anyway... but I think the real thing is people forget that "resting" is actually work for your brain. Like you're literally rebuilding energy stores or whatever, and that takes time to kick back in. I bet by Tuesday you were sharper than usual because you actually let yourself recover.
