Warning: Client told me to 'just fix the vibe' during a Zoom call and I nearly lost it
I was on a call with a wedding photographer in Portland last Thursday who kept saying my design felt 'off' but wouldn't point to anything specific. After 20 minutes of going back and forth, he finally admitted he just wanted the header font to be a little more 'breezy' like the font on his favorite coffee shop menu. Has anyone else had a client give feedback that was basically useless like this and how did you decode it?

Is it just me or do clients suddenly think we can read their minds? I had a guy once who kept saying my logo was 'too heavy' and I spent three days trying different weights and thicknesses before finding out he meant the color. He wanted a pastel version because his wife said it looked like a funeral home. That was a fun discovery halfway through a presentation. Now I just ask them to show me three examples of what they want, even if it's a cocktail napkin with a drawing on it. Saves a lot of headaches.

Has anyone else had a client say something's "just not popping" and then you find out they meant they wanted it to literally look like it was jumping off the page... I spent two days adding shadows and motion lines before they admitted the font was too small. Your napkin trick is genius though, I might steal that because I've definitely spent way too long guessing what "make it feel more professional" actually means when the client can't even explain it themselves.
