Hit the 50 invoice mark this month and realized I've been letting clients pay way too late

I just counted and 24 out of my last 50 invoices were paid over 30 days late, so I'm finally adding a 2% late fee starting next month - has anyone else had that backfire?

Hey, 24 out of 50 paid over 30 days late? That is pretty rough. I've been doing this freelance thing for a while now and I'm curious about something. Did you ever have a conversation with those clients about their payment habits before deciding on the fee? In my experience, sometimes getting a firm but polite word in early can fix things without needing a late fee at all. Your mileage may vary, but I've seen people just forget or have a weird system that needs a nudge. Adding a fee without warning might rub some folks the wrong way, especially if they're usually decent payers. So how did you handle telling them about this change?

Nah, I disagree - late fees show you mean business.
