I used to send my invoices on the 1st of the month and it was killing my cash flow

For years I billed all my clients at once on the first, then waited 30 days to get paid. Last quarter I realized my bank account was always empty by the 15th because everything was due at the same time. The tip off was seeing a $0 balance while I still had $8,000 in outstanding invoices from that batch. Now I stagger my billing dates based on project completion. Has anyone else switched from a set billing day to a rolling schedule?

My accountant cried when I did the same thing.

Yep, I've been there. Nothing like watching someone who knows your finances just deflate in real time. That's a special kind of hurt right there. I've seen that look twice now and it never gets easier. Your mileage may vary on whether it was worth it in the long run, but I still wince thinking about my accountant's face that day.
