Invoiced a $350 logo job and the client paid me in loose change

Sat in my car outside a Dunkin Donuts counting out 3,500 pennies while the guy stood there smiling like it was a fair deal, has anyone else had a client get creative with payment methods?

Dropped my jaw reading about the 3,500 pennies in the car, that's absolutely bonkers! But rosepark's story takes the cake for me - calling the bank right there in front of the guy is next level genius. I can't believe he actually had the nerve to pay in loose change and then looked happy about it like some kind of weird test. Makes me wonder how many other people he's pulled that stunt on before someone finally called his bluff. The face drop moment must have been so satisfying to watch.

Does anyone else feel like some people treat creative work the same way they treat a yard sale, thinking they can haggle with weird payment forms just to see what they can get away with? It seems like there's always somebody trying to test if you'll fold instead of just paying like a normal human being.

The last time someone tried that with me I just smiled and said "no problem" then pulled out my phone to call the bank to ask if they had a coin counter I could use. The guy's face dropped when I told him banks take coins for customers for free and I'd be right back with a receipt. He ended up pulling out his wallet and handing me two twenties instead. Sometimes you just gotta call their bluff without getting mad about it.
