Overheard a freelancer at a coffee shop in Denver mention net-60 terms and it clicked

I was grabbing a latte last Tuesday and heard this guy on the phone saying he offers net-60 to all his clients. I've been doing net-30 for years and half my payments come in at 45 days anyway, so why not just set it to 60 and get paid on time? Has anyone else tried pushing payment terms further out to match reality?

Totally tripped over my own feet the first time I tried this. Had a client who always paid at 55 days, so I switched him to net-60 and he actually sent a thank you note. Thought I was being punked but nope, he just hated feeling rushed. Ended up losing a different client though because their accounting software flagged anything over net-30 as a red flag. Still worth it for the ones who stick around in my book.

Ha, interesting twist. Bet that actually helps with client trust too since they see you as more flexible than the competition.

Wait, you actually overheard a real freelancer doing net-60 in the wild? I never thought anyone would actually try that, figured it was just an online forum myth. That's honestly wild to me, most clients I deal with act like net-30 is some kind of favor from the gods. So this guy is just out there telling people they've got a full two months to pay and it's actually working for him? Feels like the kind of move that would backfire on me in a week flat.
