Shoutout to the $47 check that took 7 months to clear
Back when I first started freelancing in 2018, a client mailed a paper check for $47 and it got lost in the mail twice before finally clearing 7 months later. I used to just trust that things would work out, but now I send invoices with a due date and a late fee right from the start. Has anyone else had a small payment turn into a whole saga like this?
Honestly the real move is taking a card or bank transfer only for anything under $100. I've had $47 checks cost me way more than $47 in time, between trips to the bank, phone calls, and just the stress of wondering if it would ever show up. Now anything small gets paid upfront or it doesn't get started, and my life is way easier. Small amounts should be simple, not a 7 month mystery.
