Switched to net-15 terms after one client sat on my invoice for 60 days

I used to think net-30 was standard, but after a client in Austin paid me 58 days late with zero apology, I switched every contract to net-15 and now two new clients have paid within a week, so has anyone else found that shorter terms just filter out the slow payers?

My own switch came after a contractor in Dallas stalled me for 45 days on a $3,200 job. I moved to net-10 and honestly it's been night and day. The slow payers get real quiet real fast when they see shorter terms, they don't even bother to negotiate. I've had one client try to push back and ask for net-30, and I just said no, that's the terms, take it or leave it. He took it and paid in 8 days. It's like a filter for who respects your time and who doesn't. Shorter terms also mean I catch billing mistakes quicker since I'm looking at the money sooner. I'll never go back to net-30 again, it's just inviting trouble.
