That $40 invoice I sent twice on purpose changed how I do follow ups
I used to always chase clients the same way, friendly nudge, then another nudge, then a call. But last month in Austin I had this one contractor who owed me $340 for some drafting work. I sent the invoice, no response for 10 days. So I sent it again but added a line at the bottom saying 'Just making sure this didn't get buried, let me know if the amounts look right.' He paid within 4 hours and actually apologized for ghosting me. Turns out he thought the first one was a duplicate from another project and just ignored it. The second send with that little check-in phrase made it feel personal instead of annoying. Now I always resend once with a short note if it goes past a week. Has anyone else found that a simple resend beats a phone call or a passive aggressive reminder?
