A buddy told me my crime show picks were all surface level... he was right
I used to just watch whatever crime show was on Netflix trending, usually stuff like CSI or Law and Order reruns. Then a buddy who's really into the genre sat me down and said I was only watching the stuff with big car chases and not the ones that actually make you think. He gave me three specific shows: The Fall, Unbelievable, and Mindhunter. After watching those, I finally got why he said my picks were shallow. Now I look for shows that focus on the psychology of the case instead of just the action. Has anyone else had a friend call out their taste and totally change their watchlist?

Oh man, did your buddy basically call you out like that? That happened to me last year and it STUNG but he was totally right. I was all about Criminal Minds and NCIS, the ones where they solve everything in 42 minutes with a car chase and a dramatic arrest. My friend handed me The Killing and said "watch this and tell me it's boring." I couldn't even get through the first episode without feeling stupid for watching the other stuff. Now I look for shows that take their time with the victims and the whole investigation process, not just the flashy ending. It's like I was eating fast food crime shows and didn't even know there was a whole menu of real cooking.
