Just hit 100 episodes of a show I thought I'd hate

My buddy kept pushing me to watch 'The Expanse', said it was a slow burn. I finally gave in last month and started from season one. Last night I checked my watch history and realized I've watched exactly 100 episodes across all seasons. The world building just hooked me, and the politics between Earth, Mars, and the Belt got so deep. Anyone else have a show they were sure they'd dislike but ended up binging hard?

Slow burn" shows always trick me into a hundred episodes.

Totally get that. The slow burn world building in that show is what makes it so good.

Actually, I gotta be careful with that whole "slow burn" thing. The show's creators said in an interview that the world building isn't the focus, it's the character relationships. They keep the magic system pretty loose on purpose, almost like the rules are meant to stay mysterious. So it's not really about learning the magic step by step, it's more about seeing how the characters react to these weird situations. That's what makes the big moments work, not the world building details like you said.

Used to find the pacing frustrating, but @sandragrant is right about the world building. It's the small details, like how they slowly show the rules of that magic system, that make the big moments hit so much harder later on.
