My wife and I watched a show called 'The Great British Bake Off' for a solid week straight.
Before we started, I could barely tell you the difference between a sponge and a scone. Now, after seven days, I'm critiquing her cookie texture and using words like 'soggy bottom'. What other chill shows have this kind of weird, specific power?

Honestly, that show is a total gateway drug for turning normal people into amateur food critics. Tbh I'm curious, did you guys actually start baking stuff yourselves by the end of the week, or is it just the judging vocabulary that stuck?

Totally get what you're saying. I watched that woodworking show and started side-eyeing my own coffee table, like I could spot a bad joint from a mile away. The trick for me was to actually try making something myself, a simple box, and it instantly cured the judgey-ness. Once you feel how hard it is to get it right, you stop being so critical of everyone else's work.

Was it the pottery making show that did this to people too? I read an article about how The Great Pottery Throw Down makes viewers notice the glaze on their coffee mugs. It gets you looking at everyday objects with a judge's eye, kinda like how @nancy_west said Bake Off turns you into a critic. There's something about watching skilled people make things that rewires your brain.
