Back then, we made tools and hardware. Today, a request for a decorative sword made me question everything.

A decorative sword? Idk, maybe it's just me but everything's for show now.

Disagree with that view. Decorative swords can hold real meaning beyond just looking cool. They often tie into history or personal expression, which matters too. Making tools back then served a purpose, and making beautiful stuff now serves a different one. Calling it all for show kinda misses how people find value in different things.

What if decorative swords help keep old crafting skills from disappearing? Many makers use techniques that are hundreds of years old. Each piece saves a piece of history through how it's built, not just its design. Buying one supports these artists and lets their knowledge live on. That feels way more important than just putting on a show.

But how many of those old techniques are actually needed for a wall hanger? If the blade isn't meant to hold an edge or handle stress, couldn't a lot of that historical process get cut out for something that just looks the part?
