Cold oil during a quench split my favorite blade.

That crack convinced me to always warm the oil first.

Wait, you didn't warm the oil first?! I didn't even know that could happen. That's a brutal way to lose a good blade.

How did they not warm the oil? That's like rule number one. I'd be pissed if I lost a blade like that.

Forgetting to warm the oil is a total beginner move. It's like starting your car in the dead of winter and just flooring it. The metal can't handle that shock. Seen it happen with a brand new carbon steel blade, just a hairline crack right up the middle. Ruined it before the first real use.
