Old smith in Hannibal told me to stop quenching 5160 in water, and I still think about it
I was at a hammer-in near Hannibal, Missouri about 8 months ago and this older guy watched me dunk a 5160 blade straight into the water tank. He walked over, pulled it out, and said "son, that steel is gonna crack on you every time." Sure enough it had a hairline crack I never saw. Anyone else run into that or is oil the only way to go with 5160?
