PSA: I bought a $400 propane forge and it's been a total pain

Everyone online says to get a propane forge for beginners, so I grabbed a Devil Forge DF-2 last fall. It cost me about $400 after shipping, and honestly, the heat control is way too finicky for basic projects. I've spent more time fiddling with the knobs and waiting for it to heat up than I have actually forging. Has anyone else found they prefer a simple coal setup for starting out?

Wish I'd just built a coffee can forge instead.

Those things are shockingly good for how simple they are.

Coffee can forges are great, but they don't really hold up for long. A cheap two-burner propane forge was way easier for me to learn on than coal.

Does anyone know if these propane forges need a specific regulator setup to work right? I remember @flores.mark mentioning in another thread that he swapped his stock regulator for a high-pressure one and got way better results. Might be worth looking into before you give up on it entirely.
