Remember when we all used to buy those generic, soft firebricks for the forge back?

Switching to a set of proper hard insulating bricks from a supplier in Toledo three years ago doubled my forge's heat-up speed and they haven't crumbled once, so what's the one old-school material or tool you've finally upgraded that made a huge difference?

Swapped my old leather apron for a modern welding jacket.

Modern welding jacket, huh? I get that, hannahj49. I tried one of those a while back and felt like a total nerd. My old leather apron had so many burns it looked like Swiss cheese, but at least it made me look like I knew what I was doing. The new stuff is safer for sure, just way less cool.

Actually, the new jackets look way more professional to me. They're clean and show you care about safety, not just looking tough. I'd take that over a beat up old apron any day.
