Remember when we used to weld with actual stick electrodes for everything?

I switched over to MIG about 15 years ago after a buddy let me try his setup. Now when I pick up a stinger I feel like I forgot how to strike an arc. Does anyone still use stick for their day to day work or is it just for field repairs now?

It's the same reason I still hand-write my grocery lists - some things just work better slow.

I forgot how to strike an arc" - that's exactly why I still run stick almost every day. It keeps you sharp and makes you a better welder overall, since you have to actually pay attention to puddle control instead of just pulling a trigger. MIG is fine for production work, but stick still wins for me when I need a proper root pass or welding on dirty steel that would eat a MIG nozzle.

Explain how stick handles dirty steel better vs MIG with flux core?

Nah, stick isn't really better for dirty steel though.
