Switched from my coal forge to a rebuilt gas one last weekend and finished 6 bottle openers in 2 hours
I held off on gas for a long time because I liked the whole coal ritual, but a friend in Dayton sold me his old two burner for $150 and I finally set it up Saturday. The difference was heat control, plain and simple. With coal I was always guessing where the hot spot sat, and I'd burn a taper or lose my color while I fiddled with the fire. On the gas forge I set the pressure around 8 psi and the whole chamber stays even, so I could work three pieces in rotation without reheating from cold. Six openers in 2 hours is about double what I normally get in a session, and none of them got scorched at the tips. Curious what psi you all run for small stock like 3/8 inch round, because I feel like I'm still running a bit hot.
