Warning: My forge demo at the county fair took a weird turn
I was doing a live blacksmithing demo at our local heritage festival last weekend. This guy in the crowd kept asking if I could make a sword for his cat, which was just bizarre. I tried to keep a straight face and explain the basics of forging, but it threw off my whole rhythm. Has anyone else had weird requests from spectators during public events?

Man, that takes the cake. At a craft fair once, someone seriously asked if I could forge a full set of plate armor for their dachshund. I stared at them for a full minute trying to figure out if it was a joke. Stuff like what @spencerross mentioned just short circuits your brain mid-demo. I totally get how it wrecks your focus. I think my brain blue-screened just picturing the measurements for that little dog. You just have to nod and hope they wander off before you burn something.

Last year at the Springville arts festival, a woman asked me during my wheel-throwing demo if I could make a tiny functional teapot for her hamster. She had very specific demands about the spout size. I was so thrown I nearly ruined the bowl I was centering. People just see you making something and their brains go to the strangest places.
