Finally figured out bag building in Spirit Island after 8 attempts

I kept losing to the same adversary over and over because I was buying powers that looked cool but did nothing for my board position. Took me 8 games to realize I should focus on my innates first. Has anyone else had a similar breakthrough moment with a game everyone else seems to get right away?

Oh man, 8 tries is honestly impressive. I spent like 12 games just picking powers that sounded fun and then wondering why my island was on fire, literally, while my buddy was over there solving everything with one innate.
