I used to think board game cafes were just overpriced coffee shops with a few dusty boxes

Then my friend dragged me to one in Portland, and we played a game called 'The Crew' for three hours straight. The way the whole table had to work together without talking completely changed my mind about what a game night could be. Anyone have other co-op games that create that kind of group focus?

Honestly, the first time I played a game like that I was so focused I forgot to drink my six dollar latte. That's the real tragedy.

Okay but like, is it really that deep? It's a card game, not a surgery. I get that it's fun to figure out a puzzle with someone, but the way people talk about the 'intense silence' makes it sound like you're defusing a bomb together lol. It's cool if you like it, but sometimes I feel like the board game crowd takes this stuff way too seriously.

@zaranelson isn't that the game with the trick-taking and the forest?

My buddy had a similar thing happen with a game called 'The Fox in the Forest Duet'. He said it was just him and his partner trying to move through this forest together with a deck of cards, and the silence while they were figuring out each other's moves was so intense. It's that same kind of quiet teamwork puzzle, but for two people. Really made him see co-op games in a new light.
