My custom dice tray from that Etsy shop warped after two weeks in humid weather

I spent $45 on a handcrafted wooden dice tray that warped so bad after two weeks in this Georgia humidity that my D20 kept rolling off, so I called the seller and he offered to half refund me if I stopped leaving it near the window - has anyone else had luck fixing warped wood trays?

Wait, he said the fix was to stop leaving it near the window? That's honestly wild. A $45 handcrafted tray shouldn't be that fragile. I live in Louisiana and my wooden dice tray from a maker on Facebook Marketplace has been sitting right under a window for three months with zero issues. Wood can warp if it's really thin or if the finish isn't sealed properly, but blaming the window placement feels like a cop-out. I'd be pretty frustrated too if my expensive tray couldn't handle basic room conditions. Did he mention what type of wood or finish he used?

and honestly that's the thing, wood is wood, it's gonna react to moisture no matter what. i read somewhere that even well sealed wood can warp if the humidity swings too fast like it does down here in the south. i had a friend who bought a handmade box from a guy in california and it arrived warped because the wood dried out there and then got hit with our humidity here. the seller blaming the window is lazy though, a good finish should handle normal room conditions for at least a few months before any issues.

i had the same issue with a wooden tray from a seller in Oregon. @gracej99 is right that the wood itself matters more than the window. i sealed mine with a few coats of polyurethane and it's been fine under a south-facing window since.
