PSA: My shelf of 200+ games now lives in 6 boxes and I actually play more
Ten years ago I had a wall of board games, all set up on those cheap bookcases, and I loved seeing them. Somewhere around game number 120 I noticed I was spending more time rearranging shelves than playing. So two winters back I tried an experiment and put everything into 6 plain storage boxes, sorted by player count. The wall got bare, which felt wrong for about a month. Turns out I was avoiding games because picking one off a stuffed shelf felt like a chore. Now I just grab a box and pull 3 options. My group plays twice as often, weird as that sounds. Has anyone else tried boxing stuff up and did you regret it later?
Take it one step further and sort by mood instead of player count, like light vs heavy vs co-op. Grabbing the "tired Tuesday" box kills the what-do-we-play talk way faster than three random picks.
