Rant: a guy at my Thursday game night said my turns were taking too long, and I counted them
So I host a game night every Thursday at my place in Rochester, usually 5 or 6 people, and two weeks ago we were playing a heavier euro and one of the regulars, Dave, just kind of sighed and said 'are we doing a turn or writing a term paper?' I laughed it off in the moment but it bugged me all weekend, so the next week I actually set a timer on my phone for myself, secretly, and man. My turns were averaging 4 minutes 20 seconds in a game where everyone else was under 2. I had no idea. I was doing this thing where I'd plan my whole move, then re-plan it after the board shifted, then re-plan it again, and nobody was saying anything because they're nice. What I changed is I now pick my move before my turn even starts, based on what I think the board will look like, and only adjust if something big happens. It has genuinely made the game more fun for everyone, including me, because I'm not stuck in my own head. Anyone else had a friend call them out like that, and did you change anything or just get mad about it?
