Shoutout to the guy at the Kingstowne library game night who made me rethink house rules
I used to be the guy who pulled out the rulebook every single turn. Like clockwork, someone would try to do something and I would grab the book and read the exact wording out loud. Then at game night in Kingstowne about 3 months ago, we were playing a 5 player game of Catan and a new guy wanted to trade a sheep for two ore with another player. I started flipping pages to find the exact trade rule and he just looked at me and said 'dude, it's a game, let them trade.' I got annoyed at first but then realized he was right. We let the trade happen and the whole table got more relaxed and people actually started having fun instead of watching me read. Now I ask the group if they want to just house rule stuff instead of stopping every 10 minutes. Anyone else had a moment where you realized you were the fun killer at the table?
